自我中心(self centred)不是失去連繫(lose of relatedness)的結果，反之亦然。而是來自自我保護及保存的一種嘗試。否則，一種冒然的開放，將會使個體超載(overloading)而面臨困擾，甚或解離。因此，人在自我保存與邁出之間，選擇了前者。

世界的混亂與紛擾，是源於有太多要去幫助及渴求被幫助的人。
「十多年的工作經驗中，遇上了不少被困擾與痛苦煎熬得死去活來的人。他們的遭遇為我提供了上好的素材去反省人生，我因而心懷感激。」一段曾在《從情緒到慈悲》一文的序言中所分享的感受。
校長、各位嘉賓、家長： 你們好，今日很高興有機會跟大家分享一個我個人認為很重要的課題：就是家長如何協助孩子的發展正確的價值觀及良好的品格。這是一個很大很闊的議題，並非在短短的十多二十分鐘的分享所能處理。但如果能讓大家了解到甚麼是「價值教育」及其重要性，並且關注這事情，我想我已經達到了分享的目標。或者有部份的家長更關心自己可以怎樣做，這當然是重要的。但同時我亦認為正確的了解，才能帶來正確的行動。因此，這部分可以留待小組討論時再作分享。另外，我並非希望作一個學術性的分享，有很多數字，很多某某專家的觀點，反而是希望分享自己在十多年從事學校社工的經驗中所獲得的點滴體會。
以往我們擔心數碼隔閡的存在，使某些弱勢社群的下一代因此而得不到應有的資訊接觸而發展不足；但現在互聯網普及化，我更擔心的是網絡沉溺的問題使弱勢跨代發展！
把人的工作，變為事的工作，人才會透支(burnout)。
